GUIDE FOR RESELLERS

How to buy at our Hong Kong auction

How the monthly Hong Kong sale works for professional buyers: pre-bids, the reserve, the ways to bid, what you pay and what happens after the sale.

How the Hong Kong sale works

LBA Hong Kong is held once a month, on the 5th at 10:00 Hong Kong time (doors open 9:30), in our saleroom at 701B Block B, Po Yip Building, Tsuen Wan, and online. A sale typically has 800 to 2,000 lots, presented one by one. The in-room preview opens on the 4th from 12:00.

The catalogue opens for online pre-bids before the sale. Pre-bids close at 09:00 Hong Kong time on the 4th and are carried into the live sale, where they compete with bids in the room. In the room, a pre-bid can only be outbid by a bid at least 10% higher than the pre-bid (one increment more is not enough).

Before you bid: do your homework

  • Check past prices. Every hammer price is public: browse past results and the price guides by brand and model.
  • Read the condition grade. Every lot is graded from N to BC, with photos and a condition report. See the grading guide.
  • Compare with the market you sell in. Set your maximum against realistic wholesale prices in your own market, not retail.
  • Come to the preview on the 4th from 12:00 if you are in Hong Kong.

Bidding and the reserve

Every lot has a confidential reserve price, and you may bid below, at or above it. Some lots sell below their reserve, depending on the consignor, but the lower your bid, the higher the chance of being outbid.

Every lot goes to the live sale, where your highest pre-bid competes with bids in the room. On the Hong Kong catalogue, the bid box is pre-filled with the reserve in your currency; you can lower it.

Three ways to bid

  • Pre-bid online on this website until 09:00 Hong Kong time on the 4th. Online participation is free.
  • Bid in the room in Tsuen Wan: HKD 200 attendance (paddle and lunch included), HKD 500 annual membership, and HKD 500 registration after your first three auctions.
  • Proxy bidding: send us your maximum per lot and our staff bid for you, for an extra 2% of the hammer price on lots won. We do our best but cannot guarantee that a proxy bid is executed.

What you pay

Everyone pays the hammer price plus the 5% participation fee. Online, you bid in the currency of your region. If you bid in a currency other than HKD, the price already includes shipping and import duties to your country. If you bid in HKD, shipping is added (or you collect free in Hong Kong), and taxes, import duties and insurance may apply.

We invoice only the lots you win, by email. Payment is due within 3 business days of the invoice.

After the sale

Lots bought in HKD can be shipped with UPS or another approved provider, sent with your own carrier, or collected free of charge at the saleroom within the period we tell you. Returns are accepted if an item does not match its description (within 10 days of receipt) or is confirmed as not authentic under our guarantee, which has no time limit; see Authenticity and claims and our Terms.

Buying every month

Between Hong Kong sales, LBA Japan · Always Open adds new lots every week. For regular volume outside the auctions, the J-Ports group also runs a weekly wholesale catalogue; see our group.
